Writer right about battle flag

I am in disagreement with much of what Mr. Brandt Ayers writes. However, most recently he wrote "Southerners take satisfaction from those who use the flag (the Stars and Bars) like a punch in the nose to meddling, stuck-up Yankees and liberals."

For me this has always been the reason for the huge flagpole north of Montgomery on I-65 flying the Confederate battle flag. This is basically a pointy stick in the eye of the people who don't like it and who can't do anything about it.
