Hello HK,
It was such a pleasure to see you again at the Lee-Jackson dinner. I hate it that Arnold and I couldn’t spend much one-on-one time with you but there just wasn’t much opportunity at this event. Your presentation, “I am the Flag,” was so moving. It gave us chill bumps. You should really consider having that filmed and uploaded onto YouTube or some other social media site. It’s very powerful.
I have a friend named Ginna French that is a member of the local UDC Chapter, #89, and the two of you were briefly introduced to one another at the Lee-Jackson dinner. She has a house and a working farm in Greenback, TN, that has been in her family since the late 1700’s. The site originally served as Ft. Henry to protect settlers against the Indians. The house was built in 1830. Ginna is in the middle of restoring the house to its original state so it can be placed in a trust and preserved for future generations. The farm means the world to her because it ties her to her Southern heritage and her family lineage.
I would like to know if you would consider going down to the farm and taking a picture with her the next time you are in this area. I am not asking for a special trip down, just the next time you are in the area. She would love to have you, in your uniform and your flag, standing with her in front of her family home. Ginna is very proud of her heritage and wants future generations to understand the pride and goodness that comes from the South. In many ways, she is an activist like you. She has taken on Blount County politicians because of their lack of enforcement with existing zoning rules which have affected her family farm.
Next time you are in town, Arnold and I would love a chance to cook you dinner. As always, we wish you well in all that you are doing and that you will have safe travels. Let us know.
Sincerely,
Jane
