Unwarranted Attacks on Cecil Bothwell

Dear Mr. Edgerton,

As a fellow Christian I must advise you against your attacks on Mr. Bothwell that I have read about in USA Today. Paul says in Romans that we must "submit to the authorities." The United States is a democracy, Mr. Edgerton, and the authority we recognize is that of our fellow man. Mr. Bothwell won the vote, and the authorities of our country have deemed him the best man for the job. For doesn't Paul also write that "there is no authority except that which God has established" ? For better or for worse, authority, which comes from God, has been conferred onto Mr. Bothwell and as Christians we must now submit to him. Even Jesus says "give to Caesar what is Caesar's." Even he proclaimed the necessity of bowing to secular authorities, even those that would ultimately cause his torture and death.

There is nothing in the Bible that says that we cannot civilly be lead by an atheist. Furthermore, his atheism is guaranteed by the same Constitution that allows you and I to practice Christianity freely. What utter hypocrisy, then, to deny Mr. Bothwell that same right that we enjoy?
