Re: The Seating Of An Atheist & The N.C. Constitution / An Open Letter

HK, again I find myself in total agreement with your argument. Either we follow the N. C. constitution or else vote to repeal that part of the constitution. Our country was founded on the belief of a God, whether we're talking about the Pilgrims or George Washington and even Thomas Jefferson. Since the vast majority of our citizenry is Christian and since an even greater percentage believes in a Higher Being, why do we continue to allow one individual thought to dictate the policies of the rest of us? The City Council for the last number of years has not represented Asheville in the manner of our traditional Southern and mountain values. Of course, part of the problem is that most of our citizens do not participate in elections which is why individuals who represent certain activist issues are elected. However, I still do not think this should allow a professed atheist to make moral decisions for the good people of Asheville. Since I am not an Asheville voter and have no influence in this matter, I just wanted to say how proud of you I am for continuing to voice your concerns and to stick with your convictions.
