Dear Mr. Edgerton:
I saw you at the Chickamauga Reenactment this past weekend (I was one of the Motorcycle Escorts for VP Cheney who were joshing with you as we waited to leave the site) and I took some photos. I have attached the best ones of you. I then learned your story and was fascinated. If you would like, I'll send a CD disk with all the photos I took.
Some of these photos were also posted on a local Discussion group found here:

By coincidence, I have been reading Shelby Foote's "The Civil War - A Narrative" and was just getting to the Chickamauga Battle section when I learned that I would be on the Escort. My relatives were all from Eastern Tennessee and half fought for the Union and half fought for the Confederacy so the history involved is very interesting to me. This book does not really cover the participation of Blacks in the Civil War except for the Brigades that fought in the Virginia area and very little on those that fought for the Confederacy.
One of the other Motorcycle Escorts (Trooper Benny Jennings, a good friend and the best police motorcycle rider in the Southeast US), who happens to be Black, got a big kick out of you being on the "Other Team", but we didn't know the history behind your story at the time. It is sad that we seem to have forgotten the sacrifices made by people on both side of the war.
Feel free to use these photos as you see fit.
Keep up the good work and if you ever need anything, please call.
Sincerely,
Sgt. Mark Kimsey # 1221
