H.K. !,

Hey there. Sounds like you had a busy but beautiful visit to the Western N.C. mountains.

The things you wrote are so true, and in relation to African American prosperity I must agree. I also agree with something you wrote and stated so astutely:

"Our greatest danger is that the great leap from slavery to freedom we may overlook the fact the masses of us are to live by the production of our hands, and fail to keep in mind that we shall prosper in proportion as we learn to dignify and glorify common labor and put brains and skill into common occupations of life- shall prosper in proportion as we learn to draw the line between the superficial and the substantial-the ornamental gewgaws of life and the useful.”

I have said this over and over again about our propects for future prosperity as a working-class people in general. Too many are coming out of college and entering fields of manual and menial labor, while those who start a business are utilizing their university education in regards to managing illegal labor for construction fields. Is this all that there is in store for college educated young people, and are dishonest, and illegal methods the only course for prosperity?

If so, then the masses of black and white working-class America are further doomed to this rampant indignification of good hard work, intellect, and skilled labor. The combination of these things, with a view of respect toward hard work is a value that is self-dignifying, self-rewarding, and self-prospering, while the educational systems seem to be fighting tooth and nail against such values. Personally, I think that they have contributed to the spirit of futility among young and capable people in the south, seeing that they must compete with a devalued and unfair system.

Thanks for the Include,

Kenny
