Johnson Guards & Juneteenth Celebration

Subject: Johnson Guards & Juneteenth Celebration
We, SCV camps and re-enactors, have been invited to attend the Juneteenth celebration in Dallas next month and put on a small skirmish
plus talk to visitors. This is an excellent opportunity for us to follow the Charge by talking to people about our ancestors and why they fought the War. It is also a rare opportunity to honor the black confederate soldiers and make the public aware of their existence. How often do we get such an opportunity? As Sam explained in our last camp meeting, this is an event for colored folks: Black, brown, white, red, yellow and everything in between. These are the types that have shown up in the past. I think this is a very unique opportunity to make people aware of our organization and what it stands for. I, and a couple of others from our group, intend to be there and hope you will join us. The Johnson Guards probably compose most of our camp membership that own uniforms so we need to take the lead on this and encourage all of our friends to attend. This is a tremendous
opportunity for us to pass on knowledge, and just as importantly, for us to learn some things ourselves. For those without uniforms, I have a couple of extra ones they can borrow and some of the Johnson Guards probably do also. Wearing a uniform is not a requirement so please come even if you do not have a uniform. Sam Allen, a Friend of the SCV and associate member of the Col. Middleton Tat Johnson Camp #1648, is putting together the program for this huge party. Call me (817-946-20990 or Sam (972-978-8047) for more details. Jim Floyd -- please call me about the drum. Below is copied the info I failed to attach to the last email.
Thanks,
Jack

If you can get H.K. Edgerton at hkedgerton@gmail.com. It will probably require some travel money for him. He would be an excellent source of influence. He is a descendant of a black CSA soldier and knows their history well. When he came to Texas the first time, I escorted him on horseback carrying the Texas flag across the bridge from Louisiana to Texas. It amounted to one upsmanship of Texas over Louisiana.
