Mr. Edgerton:

I forwarded you some pictures from my son's Eagle project in Winfield, West Virginia. For his project he built a brick wall and an iron fence around the grave of Captain P.J. Thurmond. Additionally, he reset the grave markers and monument in the Hoge Family Cemetery, which is the property and place where Captain Thurmond was shot, died ans buried. Her is wishing the fullness of God's blessing for you and yours in this new year.

Dear Shawn,

You tell your Son that he did himself, his family, and homeland proud. And I know that I join his extended Southern family in saying; job well done. Captain Thurmond is probably beside himself in Heaven with gratitude.

However, please tell him that I will not spoil the moment, but that I am at great odds with the Boy Scouts of America for removing the name of the Honorable General Robert E. Lee from the Boy Scout Council in Richmond, Virginia. And that I have asked all my Southern babies to give the Boy Scouts back their medals, badges, uniforms, and any other paraphnalia thereof, until such time as General Lee's name is replaced with an apology. And you tell my baby boy that none has stepped forward to do so as of yet. And you tell him that I don't love them less, but the time is upon all of us who call ourselves Southern to lift up our heads, and take back the rightful honor and dignity for the dry bones of our ancestors who can longer speak or act in this endeavor as their spirits surely turn to us for recourse. Please give the baby boy a big hug for me. Happy New Year to you, your family and friends, and may God bless you all.

Your brother,
HK

Dear H.K.,

As you might have guessed, our Scoutmaster declared that we had sullied the name of the Boy Scouts, our troop and our church by associating with a hate group, the S.O.C. and and organization built on hate. He went so far to say the Thurmond was a traitor who did not deserve to honored as he was an enemy combatant and should be treated as the same. Laughable. But through it all, my son stood strong and posited it to everyone that would listen that this was about historical preservation and had nothing to do with hate. These are interesting times where all of America seeks to sanitize itself from its perceived past.

Blessings,
