Dear Commander Dorsey,
It is a very high honor for me to be able to come to the town of the Honorable General Jackson. I know that he and General Lee will have to deal with my mama wearing their ears out in Heaven. I could not think of any better way to seek vindication for the good name of so many of the African people freed or indentured who profited greatly from the presence of this great man and his wife. And not to forget the dear White citizenry of Lexington who turned a blind eye to the illegal act of educating Black folks as the good General, his wife and church family did.
I know that my dad, the Honorable Rev. Roland Rogers Edgerton, and my mom, the Honorable Annabelle Edgerton would say to me, son, you go to Lexington and speak well of General Jackson and when you finish the Almighty God will say: "Thank you, well done"! God bless you.
Your brother,
HK
