My Honorable Mr. Edgerton:

I had the great privilege of working for PIEDMONT Airlines in (LWB), Lewisburg , W.Va from 1976 to 1986...What a beautiful city.. While I was there, one learned quickly that part of the state was definitely not for the North and there a was a battle of Lewisburg fought against the Yankees in Lewisburg, W,Va. The upper part of W. Va. fought for the North. There is a resting place for all Confederate solidiers in the shape of a Large Cross above the city cemetary.

Some years back, Lewisburg started a remembrance in Lewisburg--celebrating the battle. All shops opened up during this time in downtown LWB ( I recall LWB was a historic district.) As I am aware this celebration continues. This is an or was an annual event.

The people in LWB were offended if I refferred to them as Yankees. The were definitley all for the Southern cause. Great people. Also the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va. was one of the places where Robert E. Lee and other Southern grenerals visited and Gen. Lee loved it there.. even visiting after the "War of Northern Agression". There is a museum there dedicated to Gen. Lee. Always a 4 star hotel, it is beautiful.. As I recall, this is where Lee purchased Traveller; his great horse. Some of the last reunions of Confederate Veterans occurred in the Stately Mansions just outside the business district of LWB.

I myself, my son; Kirk Carter; and my lovely wife would like to take you and yours to W. Va.; visit my hometown in Warm Springs, Va., visit the pools where Mrs. Lee took to the waters for her medical conditions. The pools were designed by Thomas Jefferson. And maybe after that, drive over the mountain to Lexington Va. Lexington was the birthplace of my father and my two great-grandfathers who were in the WAR. Also if u have not visited VMI, Wasington and lee University ( Lee became president of this University after the War) and the resting place of "Stonewall Jackson". Town full of history. This is something for u to think on.........

For the CARTER family, it would be a great honor. FYI.......GOD continue to bless you for being a fine American!

Always your obedient and humble servant,

JIMMY CARTER,

And GOD shed his grace on you, and the love of Jesus Christ permeate your heart with love " which I know you have " and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost be with you and yours,
