HK,
Greetings from Midland Texas. From reading your occasional e-mail's it seems that you are staying active with the 150th anniversary upon us. Good for you. Stay strong in the cause.
Our camp commander (Tom Owens) asked me to contact you so that we can stay abreast of your plans should you visit Texas again in the not to distant future. I seem to remember several months back that you mentioned reinventing your famous 'Walk across Dixie', but I haven't seen anything lately. I was wondering if you were still moving forward with those plans and if the Texas Division was going to co-ordinate those plans?
Our camp leadership expressed it's interest in hosting you in Midland at any opportunity in the next few years. Whether you are 'Walking across Dixie' or just coming to Texas for a single function, once you get here we would love to tag onto that visit and utilize your talents to make inroads within our community.
We recently teamed up with several other groups in town and had a very successful School Days, where we hosted over 600 public and private school kids in the Midland/Odessa area where we Signed them up to be Texas Volunteers, Drilled them on the parade ground, instructed them in the use of rifles/pistols and instructed them in the history of Texas in the War.
Thanks for the work you do and the spirit with which you do it. We look forward to supporting you and hopefully seeing you again in the future. Please feel free to contact Tom Owens (Commander), Steve Parnell (Lt. Commander) or myself concerning any future visits.
God Bless,
--
Mark Wilkins
