Confederate Memorial Day Event in Whiteville, NC

From: Bill Ghent - bill.ghent@rocketmail.com Date: Wed, Mar 31, 2010

H.K.: This is Bill Ghent, Lt. Commander of the Whiteville, NC, SCV Camp 794.

Commander Jolly asked me to drop you a note and give you the date and times for the Confederate Memorial Day celebration here in Whiteville. We are excited about the prospect of having you be with us for our signature event.

The Confederate Memorial Day celebration is scheduled for Saturday May 8th. The event begins at ten AM at the Columbus County Courthouse with the raising of the colors... the Battle fag will be raised aloft by reenactors and a brief ceremony is held for that. A guard is then posted.

The actually CMD program begins at eleven AM at the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery -- approximately 3/4's of a mile due north of the Courthouse on highway 701 business. (Pinckney Street).

Commander Jolly asked me tor relay to you that we need to know (if you will be able to join us) at least a couple of weeks prior to the event so we can prepare the programs, and get the advertising and promotional materials out to the press, and to the Brigade, and to the UDC, and so forth.

We certainly hope you CAN make it. Your presentation in February was wonderful! You may drop me an e-mail at this address when you have firmed-up your arrangements.
