Commissioner Rembert,

Thanks for voting in favor of Confederate History Month.

The Emancipation Proclamation was a war measure designed to cause a slave revolt in the South. It was carefully worded (by Lincoln) so as not to free any slave in the North. And, it did not free any slaves in the South because Lincoln did not have any authority in the South. The South was governed by the Confederate government.

Of the four million black in the South at the start of the War for Southern Independence, the great majority stayed in the South and supported the Confederacy by growing food, making war supplies and taking care of the farms for the white Southerners who were away at war. They could have escaped slavery for there was no one to keep them from leaving. But they stayed. There was no slave revolt.

They stayed because of their love and caring for their white families.

We must recognize the contributions that each race made in support of our Southland during those troubled times and we will find that we have much in common.

We should work together to strengthen the bonds that we share. Your vote is a step towards that mutual understanding and cooperation.

Congratulations on being a woman of character and speaking the truth in the face of the political correctness.

Best Regards,
