Dear HK,

During a slight lap in concentration, I typed in the Encarta Dictionary: Reconstruction: restoration of seceded states to Union. The period of US history from 1865 through 1877, during which the states that seceded during the Civil War were reorganized under federal control and later restored to the Union.

I did not know that the period of reconstruction, by the southern people, probably from Sherman’s march was not the same word as the defined word Reconstruction, restoration of seceded states to the Union. Perhaps I should read a good dictionary occasionally for kicks.

The second sentence of the definition, “The period of US history from 1865 through 1877, during which the states that seceded during the Civil War were reorganized under federal control and later restored to the Union.” is the damaging evidence that Reconstruction was not good for the south. Look to the Gulf Coast as evidence that federal control is devastation squared!

This occupation by the union of the seceded states for 12 years continues today not by arms but by the same deception and lies and institutional racism designed to prevent true repair and rebuilding of the lives and sole of the entire southern civilization. By ciaos and the segregation of every measure of profile, each person was and is stripped of the bond of kinmanship of a civilization. The South was and struggles today to be an autonomous civilization again, a proud industrial and agricultural civilization that is second to none who ever walked on leather. If left alone, she will overcome this and become one people.

The whipping post and the hanging tree may not have been invented in the north but the legacy of false memories of and lies about what happened in the south has bound each of us at one time or another for our taste of blood and leather.

The very act of goodwill by the Police Chief, Argatha Gilmore, should be exalted by fireworks only outshined by the grace of God upon her life. We need positive role models that proudly demonstrate the possibilities of simple smiles and a little understanding with a double order of love on the sides.
