Priscilla,
How little you understand the legal process. No one has gotten rich prosecuting this case. NO ONE! If we had been able to move things quicker back in 2006, yes things might have turned out a little different, but when you have a school system with the backing of the State's law firm - it is and always has been a David v Goliath kind of thing. The successful Sypniewski case in NJ took almost 8 years, we spent almost 6 years winning Castorina in KY, when you have an opponent that is willing to do almost anything to stop you and spend anything to stop you - you have our present situation. Your family was not rigged for such a long fight.
BUT, I do resent you saying the SLRC has made money off of Candice - that is untrue. We have worked very hard and done everything in our power to help, on a tiny fraction of the support a private law firm would demand as a matter of course. But we are not a social services organization and we are over 200 miles away.
I can point fingers too, but I am not going to do that.
And we cannot just drop this case. First we have not been told by Candice to drop it. And like it or not she is the client. We have the Appeal brief and the Appendix due on JUL 23. The brief is mostly done as is the 3 volume appendix. The SCV voted the money to pay the Appeal costs and about $8000 in costs has been expended, costs, not fees. Had they voted 2 months ago not to support the case, we would AND could have dropped it then, but not now.
I also resent that the support for the case was jerked without even a phone call from y'all or the South Carolina Division, SCV
I will be happy to discuss this further if you wish, I am very sorry for Candice and y'all that things have come to this. Hopefully this can be a beginning not an ending to straightening Candice out and that is my prayer.
Sincerely,
Kirk
